Getting to TMSA:
TMSA is located at 2861 Lake Shore Drive. During early drop off (6:30 a.m.-7:00 a.m.) general drop off (7:15-7:45 a.m.) and pick up (3:15-4:15 p.m.) you may only enter the campus while traveling westbound and you must exit westbound as well. (Another way to think of this is that left turns are prohibited into and out of campus during drop off and pick up times.) TMSA posts a security officer at the head of the driveway whose responsibility is to direct traffic, so kindly use your turn signal to indicate that you are entering the school. Obey the traffic officer, and feel free to wave or smile when you pass!
Don’t forget! If your child arrives after 7:45 a.m., they are tardy and must be walked into the school by a parent, regardless of age or grade. Thank you for adhering to this policy to ensure all students are safe.
Once you have turned into the school’s driveway, you will keep to the right until you reach the island at the front of the school. Keep to the right of the planter and follow the lane which takes you to the parking lot at the east side of the school. If there is not significant backup, you may proceed around the bend and pass in front of the school and continue to the rear of the school. At peak times, staff or volunteers may ask cars to loop through the east parking lot to help alleviate some of the traffic on Lakeshore Drive. Do not drop students off at the front of the school, unless you have written permission. Loop around to the rear of the school.
In the rear, you will be greeted by staff and volunteers who will direct you into lanes. In the morning, please have your child prepared to exit the car as efficiently as possible. Please be mindful that there are students entering and exiting vehicles. Follow all directions, drive slowly, and watch carefully!
Afterschool programs that bring vans to pick up students will pull to the front of the school. Do not follow vans if you are entering carline. They diverge from carline at the east side of the island and are served at the inside lane nearest to the front entrance of the school.
Dropping off your child outside the gates of the school and letting them walk in unattended is not allowed. Parents and guardians who break this rule are creating a safety hazard for their children and for others. In the event that this rule is broken, the school administration may take any or all of the following actions: notify the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), notify the College Park police, and/or recommend expulsion of the student from TMSA.
Students who live in the neighborhood, or take public transportation, need to complete paperwork verifying that they will be walking to the school, so that appropriate safety measures can be taken. Any student who is a verified “walker” will not be dismissed until after the carline has ended. Carline ends at 4:00 p.m. Those who arrive after 4:00 p.m. and who do not pay for aftercare may be subject to fines.
When entering TMSA from Lake Shore Drive, please be mindful of our neighbors. Please do not block driveways. Kindly adhere to the neighborhood speed limit of 25 miles per hour (15 miles per hour in the school zone). And remember that we all try to model our core values at all times for our students. In carline, please demonstrate Compassion, Justice, and Respect!
Parking and Walking Students into the Building:
Parents who wish to park and escort their child to class should follow the carline to the east parking lot. We cannot guarantee there is enough parking and doing so can cause some unnecessary backup in the flow of traffic during peak times. There is also parking toward the rear of the building along the fence. Parents can only escort students to class between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
