November 1, 2024
Dear TMSA Parent/Guardian:
The Fulton County School System recognizes the importance of vision health and its impact on students’ education and academic success.
This year, The Main Street Academy will partner with Prevent Blindness, a non-profit organization, to provide vision screenings for our 1st, 3rd, and 5th-grade students on November 12, 2024. Prevent Blindness will collaborate with our District Health Services Team to offer free, state-of-the-art, touch-free vision screenings. A Certified Vision Screener from Prevent Blindness Georgia’s Star Pupils Program, in partnership with our School Nurses, will perform the screenings under the "Healthy Eyes for Healthy Futures" initiative. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may have or are at risk for vision problems and need a comprehensive eye exam by an eye doctor. Please note that this screening is not a diagnosis.
Vision problems are a leading handicap of childhood, and many of these issues go undetected because they are not obvious to children or their parents. Untreated vision problems can result in permanent vision loss and may impact a child’s learning ability, athletic performance, and self-esteem. However, early detection and treatment can often restore normal vision.
If your child does not pass the vision screening, you will receive an initial letter sent home with your child, as well as follow-up communication from the vision care staff. For children who pass the screening, you will receive documentation of their status along with tips on how to maintain healthy eyes.
If you have any questions, please contact my office 404.768.0081 Ext 169.
Please note: You ONLY need to return the enclosed OPT OUT FORM if you DO NOT wish for your child to participate in the vision screening.
If you have any questions, please contact my office: 404.768.0081 Ext. 169.
Sincerely,
