All TMSA after-school activities are canceled for Thursday, September 26th; school/campus is closed on Friday, September 27th.
What is this notification about?
Weather models from the National Weather Service indicate Hurricane Helene is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Metro Atlanta area beginning late Thursday. This may lead to possible widespread power outages and hazardous weather conditions impacting schools on Friday.
What does this mean for students?
Students report to school as regularly scheduled on Thursday, September 26th. However, all TMSA extracurricular activities involving TMSA students are canceled on Thursday, September 26th. This includes after-school and evening meetings, the afternoon extended care program, tutorials, clubs, and athletic practices and games. Parents with children in the afternoon extended care program should be prepared to pick them up by the regular school dismissal time.
In addition, TMSA's campus, including the administrative office, will be closed Friday, September 27th, due to expected impacts from the storm. Students do not report to school on Friday, September 27th. While there is no expectation of remote learning for students, this is a good time for homework completion and recovering missing work. All after-school meetings, afternoon extended care program, clubs, athletic games, practices, and events also are canceled. The FCS district will announce by 4 p.m. on Friday whether weekend activities will be held after campus conditions can be evaluated. TMSA's Screen on the Green event, initially scheduled on Saturday, September 28th, has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
What does this mean for employees?
TMSA's teachers, staff and administration should not physically report to work on Friday, except those identified for operations, security or recovery. Employees needed for these efforts will be contacted directly by their supervisor.
