TMSA Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month: Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, 2023

2023 Hispanic Heritage Month at TMSA

Theme: Generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our society
 
 
Some of our anticipated activities will include daily Latin-influenced quotes, music samples, folklore art displays, decorative door competitions, and class-guided passport tours in a rotating exhibit showcasing Latin History, artifacts, and cultural connections.
 
Here's a listing of events and activities to participate at school and at home: 

At School

  • Daily Announcements: One fact will be given on Monday and Friday. Tuesday- Thursday a question is announced and students have to write (name, homeroom teacher, grade and answer on paper). Students will take the answer to lunch and drop in box located in the dining hall. One winner is selected and announced at the end of the day. The winner will receive a goodie bag with Dojo points.
  • Writing Assignment: Students (by grade level) will complete a writing assignment by genre or place bo be completed by September 20, 2023. 
  • Drawing: Grades K - 2
  • Biographies and Cartoon Graphics: Students in grades 3 - 8 will write short biographies of Hispanic influencers who've made a significant contribution to American society or create a graphic cartoon. 
  • Media Center: A display of Spanish-centered books is available for students to read at the Media Center.
  • Videos: Students will watch Hispanic-inspired videos during morning and afternoon homeroom.

At Home

Take a Spanish language course.

  • Learning or brushing up on your Spanish is a great way to immerse yourself in Latin and Hispanic culture. Apps like Duolingo or Endless Spanish (for kiddos) are free to use and help provide you with a good foundation and understanding of the language. Consider taking a dance class with friends and family.

  • Just like food, dancing is a vital part of the Latin and Hispanic culture. Look and investigate video clips that offer salsa, bachata, merengue, or flamenco classes.
