The Main Street Academy's After School Program (ASP) celebrates Fun Friday weekly! Students engage in different activities ranging from S.T.E.M. to art to cooking. A popular Fun Friday activity is Exploring Shapes with Marshmallows. The K-3 grade students learn about and practice their 2-D shapes while the 4-8 grade students practice building 3-D shapes. The students enjoy learning geometry in a new way but love eating the marshmallows at the end even more!
The most recent Fun Friday activity created a lot of noise! The K-3 grade students used beans and plastic eggs to create maracas. Students shook their maracas around the classrooms and the playground. The 4-8 grade students had a unique challenge. They pushed a skewer through a balloon without it popping (the key is to use liquid soap). This was tough, however, a few students succeeded! It was great watching the students explore the experiment and test theories.
