A Message from Principal Abdul-Salaam

Happy Friday TMSA Families,

As the TMSA JETS, we're flying to multiple paths of success this academic school year! We just completed our second week of school with slight turbulence. However, we are focused on teaching and learning and will directly face and address obstacles along our flight path to success.

Our community, much like the rest of the country, has been impacted by an increase in COVID-19 cases. The safety and well-being of TMSA students and staff are very important. Parents and guardians, please follow the health safety protocols mandated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and use extra precautions to safeguard your children, our scholars. Foremost, if your TMSA scholar is sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19 please DO NOT SEND HIM/HER TO SCHOOL. TMSA has mechanisms available for students who are sick to complete assignments at home and/or to make up missed assignments. If your TMSA scholar tests positive for COVID-19 please immediately and electronically complete and submit the TMSA Student and Staff Confirmed COVID-19 Case Form. Once you complete and submit the form, TMSA’s school nurse will contact you to discuss the next steps.

Beginning August 16, 2021, TMSA is taking additional precautions to safeguard our students on campus:

  • Students will be provided desk shields. We’ve received partial shipment due to the back-order status.
  • Subject teachers will travel to homeroom sections, thus reducing student movement.
  • Students will eat inside their classrooms or outdoors versus eating inside the cafeteria.
  •

Please note, extra protection is the best defense as we continue to encourage all TMSA students to wear masks, wash their hands and social distance. Parents/guardians are encouraged to provide students with extra replacement face masks to bring to school

Instructionally, iReady benchmark assessments will begin next week. IReady benchmark assessments are instrumental in determining your scholar’s academic starting point for growth in the subjects of Math and Reading. Also, technology is an important component of your scholar’s instructional experience at TMSA. As such, students will begin using school-issued Chromebooks to support instructional models that require greater use of technological devices. Both TMSA parents/guardians and students are required to read, sign and submit the 2021 – 2022 TMSA User Device Agreement. Please return your signed agreement to your student’s homeroom teacher on or by Friday, August 20, 2021.

Next, it’s very important for TMSA scholars to receive full instructional days. I implore parents/guardians to minimize early checkout, which concludes at 2:15 p.m. daily.

Lastly, thank you parents/guardians for your patience and support in improving our morning and afternoon carlinesOur staff and volunteers have gone over and beyond to improve the process. Click here to obtain additional details to at can significantly improve the afternoon carline process.
