TMSA's Governing Board Announces New Principal, Effective July 1st

Ishmael Abdul-Salaam has been selected as The Main Street Academy’s new Principal, a decision approved May 25, 2021 by the Governing Board. He will assume his new role on July 1, 2021, the start of the new 2021 – 2022 school year.

Abdul-Salaam currently serves as the Managing Principal at The Main Street Academy, but has previously served the school in several capacities, including Governing Board member, Chair of the Re-Opening Committee and dedicated school parent and volunteer. Having served in global and local educational leadership and administrative roles for over 20 years, Abdul-Salaam received his Master of Education in Elementary Education from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University and holds Educational Leadership Certification from the University of Georgia.

Abdul-Salaam’s predecessor, Principal, Cheryl Parker, announced her resignation earlier this spring. Heather Wells, TMSA Governing Board Chair, states, “The Main Street Academy thrives today in part from the numerous educational programs and services Principal Parker introduced to TMSA, as well as the love and commitment she extended to TMSA students and families.”

“At the conclusion of an intensive national search, the Governing Board is pleased to announce Mr. Abdul-Salaam as The Main Street Academy’s new Principal and we look forward to working with him to accomplish the school’s mission. We thank Principal Parker for her service and dedication to The Main Street Academy.”,states Governing Board Co-Chair, Mitch Foster, II.
