Winter iReady Diagnostic Testing for TMSA Scholars (Grades 1 - 8) Begins the Week of January 11th

Dear TMSA Families,

The iReady diagnostic winter testing window for  for scholars in grades 1 - 8 is January 11 - 15, 2021.  In preparation for the administration of the diagnostic please follow  guidelines for an accurate assessment of your child’s academic needs.

The iReady diagnostic helps teachers assess your student's current learning level, and what they may still need to learn, to plan on teaching most effectively. The diagnostic is only effective when students provide their best effort without anyone else assisting them with answers.

What is the I-Ready Diagnostic?

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your student a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your student’s learning.

Help Your Teachers Help Your Student(s)

You will be tempted to help on the test. We get it—the i-Ready test can be challenging. But this test is not for a grade. It helps teachers give your student the best instruction possible.

Think of it this way—would you help your student with a vision test?  No, because hints will not help the eye doctor help them. With i-Ready, hints on the test now could negatively impact your student’s instruction later.

If this is the second time your student is taking the test, you are probably asking, "Why are they taking this again?" Knowing how your student is progressing will help teachers know to best support them for the rest of the school year.

Get Organized

Find a quiet space for your student to take the test and confirming your technology is working properly.

Motivate your child by explaining how doing their best will help their teachers know how to teach them better.

Support , but DO NOT help by encouraging your child to stay focused and try their best and NOT helping them with answers, helping with do more harm than good.

Celebrate your child’s effort once you have confirmed they have completed the assessment.

We sincerely appreciate all your efforts with mid-year/winter  iReady testing.
