Important Updates from TMSA's 6th Grade Team

Kudos! The Main Street Academy's 6th grade students have received many compliments about their behavior during online classes. Although this is uncharted territory for all of us, our 6th graders are navigating this adventure beautifully.  As we begin the next chapter of our adventure, we look forward to continued learning, growth and development.

Science 6: Ms. Bynoe

I have so enjoyed working with your sixth graders. Overall, we have been doing a wonderful job following online expectations for productive class time. Please encourage your students to read over their notes daily and to take advantage of the various practice activities posted on OTUS.   Lessons are posted in OTUS daily.  Our textbook, STEMSCOPES is available online and is an excellent resource for review.  Each week the text is highlighted for students as we discuss the material in class.  This highlighted text can be reviewed during their study time.

Current Concepts:  Motion in the Universe (6E1D)

Upcoming Concept: Positions of the Earth Moon and Sun (6E2A)

Math 6 :  Mr. Price

We are currently working in Section 5 from Volume 2 textbooks. Standard MGSE6.RP. This domain involves using ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. Students will learn how to write ratios, construct ratio tables, graph ordered pairs on a coordinate plane, convert between fraction, decimal and percent and find the unit rate of an item. Students will need a 4 oz. bag of Skittles or a 3.14 oz bag of M&M's for an experiment that will be done the week of October 26th.  Students are asked to practice skills in the online program Prodigy as well as complete practice lessons in iReady. All PowerPoints, notes and assignments are posted in OTUS  in the lessons tab.

Social Studies 6: Mr. Dolland
In Social Studies we have completed an extensive study of European geography and government. We  covered Europe’s physical features, impact of geography, environmental issues, languages, religions, and various forms of government across the continent. Students have taken their Unit Test (geography and government) this week. In the weeks to come we will be studying the economy of Europe (Chapter 14) which covers Georgia state standard SS6E7  which analyzes the different economic systems of United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia. All of the Study Aids (Power points, videos, and charts) for our social studies class are in OTUS under the Bookshelf tab.
