The Main Street Academy's kindergarten grade level has a lot of great things happening! We are wrapping up unit 1 in Math counting, identifying, writing, and finding way to make numbers 0 to 5. We are also wrapping up Cycle 1 in Reading, asking and answering questions in a story! We spent the past few weeks working on letter sounds, and rhyming words! In reading, we have spent the past few weeks working with students on identifying, writing, and stating letter sounds. As we begin our new Unit in Math “Comparing Numbers 0 to 5” and our next cycle in Reading- ask and answer questions about key details in an informational text. We are excited to explore comparing numbers and using the “alligators mouth” and can’t wait to start exploring how to use a “smore” to help understand how to find key details within a text. For a fun read at home, check out “More or Less” by Stuart J. Murphy, “Alfie the Alligator” and “Gavin the Gator”. Make sure to pause and ask questions about comparing numbers and the story in general! Great read- aloud’s to help with identifying the main idea and key details in information are “Hurricanes”, “A Tree is a Plant”, and “What if You Had Animal Ears”.
