Today marked the end of an interesting, but exciting week of teaching and learning at TMSA! We would like to thank all the parents who volunteered their time, and/or sent in supplies for the classroom. We appreciate you! 😊

Curriculum Night

Please join us for Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 26th from 5:15 -6:30pm. We will host one session from 5:15-5:45pm, and another session from 6:00-6:30pm.

 

Project – Text Features Book

The students did a phenomenal job on their Text Features Books, and they will be on display when we return from the Fall Break. #WayToGo

 

USA Test Prep Assignments

Students were given their user name and login for USA Test Prep this week. Teachers have assigned work for the Fall Break. Please take advantage of this wonderful resource.

 

Progress Reports

All students received their progress reports today. Please sign and return the bottom portion to your homeroom teacher by Tuesday, September 26th.

 

Spelling & Vocabulary Words

  1. Spelling & vocabulary words have been posted online
  2. Tic Tac Toe activity sheet has been posted online
  3. Students will take their first spelling & vocab test on 9/29.

ABC Order

Write your spelling words in ABC order.

 

Parts of Speech

Write a paragraph using at least ½ of your spelling words. Underline the verbs, highlight the nouns, circle the adjectives, and box the adverbs.

Use puzzlemaker.com to create a puzzle with your spelling words. Bring it to school for a friend to solve.

Free Choice

Find something fun to do with your spelling words!

 

Sentences

Write a sentence with each word and underline the word. Find a synonym for the word, and list it next to the sentence.

 

 

Fun Fonts

Write each of your words with fancy letters or type them on the computer with a different font.

 

 

Scrapbook Spelling

Find and cut letters from magazines or newspapers to spell 5 spelling words. Glue on paper.

Memory Match

Write your spelling words on note cards, two cards per word. Play Memory Match using the two cards with the same word.

Write a Song

Write a song or rap that includes your 5 spelling words.  Share with a friend or family member.

Mixed Media

Write all your words once using something other than a pencil.

Pictorial Words

Write your spelling words and illustrate them.

Flash Away

Make a set of flashcards on file cards to study your words.

Round and Round

Write your words around the outside of your paper.  Keep going until you get to the middle.

Write a question for each of your spelling words.  Underline the spelling words.

Connect the Dots

Write your spelling words with dots in pencil.  Then use a marker or crayon to connect the dots.

 

Computer Fun

Type your spelling words.  Make each word have a different font.  You can even add clipart next to themJ

Write a story using ALL of your spelling words.

2017-2018 Robotics Club Application

The TMSA Robotics Team is now accepting applications for 2017-18

for students in 4th – 8th grade. This year we have switched to an online form.

Important Dates/Events:

9/4/17 – Labor Day – (No School)

9/5/17 – Text Features Book Project Due

9/08/17 – Grandparents Day @TMSA

 

Project – Text Features Book

Please see the attached rubric for the Text Features Book project. This project is due on 9/5/2017. This is an enrichment activity that will benefit all students.

 

Math Test

All 3rd grade students will take the Unit 1 Post test on Thursday 9/7/17. This test will cover place value, rounding, the properties of addition, picture & bar graphs, and measuring to the nearest ¼ inch.

 

Weekly Newsletter

Each week the team will send out a weekly newsletter to keep you informed. It will include the skills/topics/standards that will be taught in the upcoming week, shout-outs to our parent volunteers, 3rd grade activities, important dates, field trip information, deadlines, etc.

Beginning on September 8th, the newsletter will be distributed via the TMSA website, so please go to your respective homeroom teacher’s page and subscribe to receive updates.

Text Features Project: Guidelines & Rubric

Text Features Book Rubric

Create a small book using copy paper or construction paper. You may select any nonfiction topic that interests you. This project is for a grade and is due on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

 

  • Book must include all of the text features listed below.
  • Book can be handwritten or typed.
  • Book must be student-made.
  • Book must include page numbers.
  • Book must have a front & back cover.
  • Be creative & have fun.
  • Show what you know!
  • Extra credit for using bullet points, sidebars, comparisons, or close-ups. J
