Google Classroom/Descriptive Essay due by Tuesday night, 9/20

Every student was instructed to try AND given a copy of the below instructions (over a week and a half ago) to gain access to our class on Google Classrooms.  If your child let me know that he/she was having issues logging in, I sent a request to Mr. Graham to reset his/her login.  Try again.  Once you join your HR class, you will see where I want you to type and submit their descriptive essays.  Essays are due by the end of the day on Tuesday.  Make sure you highlight the items that I asked for on the rubric (the one I gave you and/or the one I posted with the essay on Google Classroom) or you will lose points.

Important!!! School Closing!!!!

Dear TMSA Community,

Due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Irma, Fulton County Schools is closing all schools and administrative offices on Monday, September 11, and for all schools on Tuesday, September 12.

Information received from numerous weather sources indicate that high winds and heavy rain are expected to cause conditions that could be dangerous for school buses and other drivers. There is also the possibilty of power outages and downed trees that could impact the ability to reach school buildings safely. The safety and security of our students and staff are our highest priority, and out of an abundance of caution, classes are being cancelled for Monday and Tuesday.

Superintendent Jeff Rose made the decision based upon recommendations of the FCS Weather Team, which represents staff from departments such as safety and security, transportation, facilities, academics, athletics, and communications. During weather emergency situations, members of the team are in regular communications with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City as well as other emergency management and public safety agencies.  Staff use national standards regarding forecasted sustained winds and other factors such as potential impact to transportation systems, facilities, and utilities in making a recommendation to the Superintendent.

The Main Street Academy will follow the recommendation of Fulton County Schools. Please note the closing of school on September 11-12 will not impact fall break scheduled for September 18-21.

Be safe!

Cheryl Parker

Pet Rock Project!!!!

Pet Rock Rubric below⇓

Pet rock project 2017

Dear Scientists and Parents:

It’s time to ROCK and ROLL with our Pet Rock Project! You have received your rubric, schedule outlining due dates and important information regarding your child’s project. Ample time has been scheduled and work has been spread out, so students can complete the work at a comfortable pace.

This is a major project and will represent a significant portion of your child’s grade for the next grading period(s). The primary objective of this project is to have students approach the process of the Rock Cycle.
Project guidelines state that all work must be done by the students; however, assistance may be provided by teachers, parents, etc. It is very difficult to work alone without the exchange of ideas, so I encourage you to brainstorm with your child on different ideas and possible names your child may want to use. Please take a moment to review the rubric.

I am looking forward to working with you to make this a valuable learning experience for your child. I appreciate your support on this important project.

The students and I are ALL so excited about these projects!

Pre-Progress Report

Dear parents/guardians,

Your child received a current progress report for Science on yesterday.  You should have sign the report and return it to school for extra credit; however, several did not return it therefore they did not receive extra credit. Students do not have the opportunity to turn in missing work/late work (NHI=Not Handed In- This counts as a ZERO!).

I already have the gradebook set to drop the lowest class assignments.  The dropped grades have a LINE crossing through the grade or the NHI. If your child has a good grade crossed out, tell him/her to keep up the good work because that drop grade will still be available.

School progress reports will be sent home next week on Wednesday the 13th, so this report is to allow students to see where are thus far.

Thank you in advance for your support
