Weekly Update: November 17th, 2017

We made it to our Thanksgiving Break!

 

The week was busy, but we survived. Our trip to the Tellus Museum was a success!  The kids are all very excited about the break. We hope they enjoy this time at home and come back well rested in a week!

  •  Weekly Grades: Check out parent portal for our most recent grades for quizzes and tests.
  • Tutorial: We will start back with Tuesday tutorial November 28th (Ms. Kirksey-Reading, Mr. Robinette-Math). Saturday School is on December 2nd with Mr. Robinette teaching Math.
  • Book Study: We are finishing up “The Whipping Boy”, by Sid Fleishman. When we return, we will begin reading “The Tales of Despereaux”, by Kate DiCamillo. Please make sure your child has the book by the 2nd week of December.
  • Math Facts: We are continuously studying our multiplication facts at school. PLEASE practice these facts with your child over the next few weeks. It is so important we have these mastered in order to perform well!

There is much to look forward to this week!

 

We have a great week of activities ahead. Science students will learn about the cycles of the moon; Social Studies will end with the conclusion of our in-depth look into The Articles of Confederation. On Wednesday we will have our field trip to the Tellus Museum, and we will finish multiplication in math.

Important Notices:

 

  • Tellus Field Trip: We will have our field trip on Wednesday 11/15. Please let your HR teacher know if your child will need a sack lunch from the school by Monday.
  • Lunch charges: If your child owes money, a notice was sent home this week.
  • Chapter Books: We are reading our newest chapter book. Please purchase your child a copy of The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleischman. This is a requirement for class and needs to be in hand this week.
  • Weekly Grades: Please check parent portal for updates on grades.
  • School/Parent Compact: An important note was included in the report card packet sent home this week. It needs to be signed by you AND your child. Please return to school as soon as possible.
  • Math Facts: We are finishing up our Multiplication Unit. PLEASE practice these facts with your child this weekend. Students will be given a test on Thursday. The study guide will be sent home this Tuesday.
  • Tutorial: Saturday School AND Tuesday Tutorial are canceled until the new semester (Winter 2018). Our last day for Saturday School is Nov. 11th and our last day for Tuesday Tutorial was Nov. 7th.

We had another BUSY week! We completed our FastBridge (Math) testing on Thursday, as well as having a successful International Tour AND Character Book Day!

This week was a BUSY one! We began our FastBridge testing on Wednesday, as well as getting prepared for International Day AND visiting the Book Fair!

Weekly Update, October 20th

One busy full week left in October!

This week was a great one; the kids really enjoyed The Center for Puppetry Arts! We will begin and end our last full week of October with a bang. TMSA will be celebrating International Day on Friday, we will learn about “Point of View” in Reading, “Planets & Stars” in Science, “Revolutionary Wars in Social Studies, and flexing our multiplication skills in Mathematics.

Important Notices:

Science: Towards the end of our Planets & Stars unit, Our students will create a board game. Supplies (boxes, card stock, game pieces, marbles,etc) are much appreciated!

Chapter Books: We have begun reading our newest chapter book. Please purchase your child a copy of The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleischman. This is a requirement for class and needs to be in hand this week.

Math Facts: We are continuing with our multiplication unit. PLEASE practice these facts with your child this weekend. It is so important we have these mastered in order to perform well!

Character Book Day: Students will be able to dress as their favorite BOOK character on Tuesday (October 31st). Have your child also bring in the book, so that we may be able to enjoy it in class.

Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair comes to TMSA October 23-27. Stay tuned for updates on the days our students will be able to go.

International Day: Parents! We need your help! International day is sneaking up on us and we will need volunteers to bring food and other resources for our class country. Please e-mail or message your HR teacher for more information. We have less than two weeks.

 

Tutorial: Parents we will have tutorial this Tuesday from 4-5 PM. Mr. Robinette will host Math, while Mrs. Kennedy will host Reading. We are also have Saturday School (from 9 AM-12 PM) on the 21st (Writing-Kirksey) and the 28th (Math-Robinette). Reach out to your HR teacher if you are interested!

A full week is ahead of us!

 

Students have much to look forward to: the start of our new book (The Whipping Boy/The Tales of Desperaux), a new Science unit: Stars & Planets, learning about America’s leaders in social studies and more multiplying in math.

  • Report Cards: All final grades have been submitted. Report Cards will be sent home Wednesday, October 18th, 2017.
